Grechie,

I thought I would send you this photo of my latest find, which I have called the Queens Birthday Week-end patch.

I went to one of my old grounds, and came across this patch, which produced, (after chaining), 162.4gms,( including ironstone and quartz species), total gold was 105.6gms.

I went there on the Friday, set up camp, did a little bit of detecting in the afternoon for nothing, tried another spot Saturday morning and found 5 small pieces for 1.5gms, then rode around on my 4 wheeler after lunch looking for other likely areas, and came across this spot which appealed to me.

After about half an hour, I detected the first piece, when I placed the coil on the ground to dig this, I picked up another signal, I thought this is OK, and proceeded to find more after that.

I called it a day at about 4 pm, as my son and his wife were arriving the next day, so he could try out his Garret Infinium with the new Westcoil. They turned up at about 10am. Prior to their arriving, I had found numerous other targets without digging them, as I wanted him to try his machine over these targets, as I knew they were gold. After listening to the signals of these targets, and helping me dig them, he ended up finding 2 pieces himself for 2.5 gms along with a nice speci. piece, for his first gold.

Some of the gold and species we found were on the surface.

The largest speci in the photo, gave off a great signal, my son was up the other end of the patch when I heard it, I called him down to witness the exhumation, (which he did), as I knew it was going to be something special. The total weight of it is 49.8gms.

My son and daughter in-law left Monday morning, I commenced chaining when they left, for 9 more pieces.

The total find was 43 pieces, including the speci pieces. Not all the pieces are in the photo, as anything under 0.6gm, I have placed in a bottle with all my other small pieces.

Two weeks before this trip, I went down there for a week with an old mate (80 years old), I found 23 pieces for a total of 7.5gms, he found 3 for a total of 1 ym, I asked him did he want to come on the last trip, but he declined, much to his sorrow now.

I am getting more familiar with my machine now, and what to look for, I hope I can have a few more trips like this one.

The coils used were, 14" x 7" mono Nugget Finder, and 24" x 12" UFO when I was chaining. Most of my recent gold has been found with the 14" x 7" mono Nugget Finder, which you recommended I get. I am amazed at how small the gold it will detect, some of it has been down to pin head size. r "

Happy policing and detecting.

Regards,

Rex Whitehead.
